Ganesh idol falls during procession in Bhainder, youth taking photo injured
The idol toppled at Golden Nest Chowk while being taken for installation, injuring a young man who was photographing it
A shocking incident occurred in Bhainder on Saturday evening while an idol was being brought for the public Ganeshotsav celebrations. The idol was being carried from Navghar towards Bhainder West, to the pandal of Sheetal Chhaya Mitra Mandal, when it suddenly lost balance at Golden Nest Chowk and fell, breaking in the process.
According to information received, the idol was being taken from Navghar to Bhainder West at around 7:30 pm on Saturday. Preparations had been made for the arrival procession for the installation of the idol at the Sheetal Chhaya Mitra Mandal pandal. However, on reaching Golden Nest Chowk, the idol suddenly tilted and fell to the ground within moments.
The sudden fall of the idol caused brief panic among the people present. The Ganesh idol was damaged and broke in the accident. The incident, which occurred during the arrival ceremony, caused concern among the mandal workers as well as devotees present at the spot.
A young man was taking a photograph of the idol at the time of its arrival. He was standing right next to the idol and was injured in the leg when it fell. The injury is reported to be minor, and the young man is being treated.
People present at the spot were relieved that there was no major loss of life in the accident. However, the incident has once again brought up the issue of safety during the arrival of public Ganesh idols.
It was initially alleged that the idol fell because of a pothole on the road, which also sparked discussion about the condition of roads in the area. However, on inspecting the spot, no pothole was found on the route that could have caused the idol to fall.
Based on initial information, it is therefore being estimated that the idol fell not because of a pothole but because it suddenly tilted. The exact reason why the idol tilted has not yet been officially and fully established.
During Ganeshotsav, the arrival of idols of public mandals in different parts of the city is carried out with great enthusiasm. Large idols, vehicles and large numbers of devotees are involved, which is why special caution is necessary during such processions.
A major accident was averted in this incident in Bhainder, but it has once again highlighted the importance of proper planning, adequate space and the safety of people present while carrying an idol. Devotees are now watching to see what will be done with the Sheetal Chhaya Mitra Mandal's Ganesh idol and whether a new idol will be arranged.
