Arjuni-Mor engineer plants fruit trees in forest areas alongside government job
Mahavitaran engineer Amit Shahare has spent years collecting seeds and planting fruit trees in forest areas during his time off from government duty.

If the intent is firm and the urge to do something for the environment is strong, it is possible to serve nature even while holding down the responsibility of a government job, as Amit Shahare of Arjuni-Mor has shown through his work. While carrying out his government job well, he has for several years now nurtured a passion for planting and caring for trees. His campaign to plant fruit-bearing trees, especially in forest areas, has been winning considerable praise.
Until a few months ago, Amit Shahare worked as sub-divisional engineer at Mahavitaran in Arjuni-Mor. He has since been promoted and is now posted as additional executive engineer, Bhararri division, in Gadchiroli. Even while staying busy with government service, he has not given up his passion for protecting the environment.
Shahare collects seeds of different fruits through the year. He grows saplings from these seeds at his own home and then plants them in the forest areas of the taluka during the monsoon season. On Saturday and Sunday holidays, he takes time out himself to go into the forest to plant trees. Because of this, planting trees has now become not just a hobby but an important part of his life.
As part of this campaign, around 50 different fruit-bearing saplings were planted on September 6 in the forest near Arattondi bus station. These included mango varieties such as Hapus, Kesar and Amrapali, along with jamun and several other fruit-bearing saplings. Planting fruit trees in the forest will also help wildlife get food naturally in future.
Prashant Lade, Pradeep Khobragade, Jitu Nakade, Kumari Armiti Shahare, Advik Shahare, Kumari Adhisha Lade, Kumari Nayara Meshram, Preshit Sangole and Kumari Shravanya Sangole joined Amit Shahare in this tree-planting programme.
Planting trees alone is not enough; caring for and nurturing them is equally important. Amit Shahare's campaign of contributing to environmental protection while taking time out from government service is proving to be a genuine inspiration for society. His efforts are helping spread awareness of protecting the environment along with planting trees.
