VNIT Nagpur launches 8 new courses, sets up cancer innovation centre

The Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) in Nagpur has expanded its academic and research offerings. The institute has launched five new undergraduate courses and three new postgraduate courses. It has also set up a Cancer Innovation Centre to promote research, innovation and startups in the field of cancer. The details were shared at a press conference held ahead of the institute's 24th convocation.
The new undergraduate courses include Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, Computer Science and Engineering, Mathematics and Computing, Electronics Engineering, Engineering Physics, and Chemical Technology linked to chyawanprash processing technology. At the postgraduate level, new courses have been launched in MBA in Advanced Construction Management, Structural Engineering, and Control and Automation.
The Cancer Innovation Centre was inaugurated on July 13. So far, 15 startups working in the cancer field have been selected for the centre, and they will be given guidance for research, innovation and industry development. Research in biomedical engineering and inclusive technology is also being promoted.
Over the past year, VNIT has received consultancy projects worth Rs 33 crore. The institute has also signed agreements with IIT Bombay, IIT Jodhpur and IIT Delhi. Under these agreements, 20 VNIT undergraduate students have enrolled at IIT Bombay for their final year of study. After completing a year of study there, their credits will be transferred back to VNIT.
On placements, VNIT students received a total of 843 job offers last year. The highest annual package was Rs 58.3 lakh, while the average package was Rs 10.45 lakh. The institute said its focus is not only on the quality of education but also on the overall development of students and shaping them into responsible citizens.
The institute's 24th convocation will be held on September 15. VNIT holds its convocation every year on Engineers' Day. Dr R. Balasubramaniam, Member, NITI Aayog, will attend as chief guest. Also present will be Mada Bhoosi Madan Gopal, Chairman of the Board of Governors, Director Prof. Prem Lal Patel, and Dean (Academics) Prof. Vilas Kalamkar.
A total of 1,547 degrees will be conferred at the ceremony. These include 59 PhDs, 595 Master of Technology degrees across various engineering disciplines, and 64 Master of Science degrees across various science disciplines. In addition, 761 Bachelor of Technology degrees across various engineering disciplines and 68 Bachelor of Architecture degrees will also be conferred. Students and researchers with outstanding academic performance will be honoured with medals and various awards.
