India and Afghanistan will play the first match of their T20 series on September 13, with Team India set to take the field as the visiting side on home soil for the first time. The team had already been dealt a blow before the series with Harshit Rana's injury. Now, just two days before the match, star batter Ishan Kishan has also been injured during a practice session.

The Indian team has been practising at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Kishan was injured there during a nets session. He was batting at the time while Navdeep Saini was bowling. Saini, known for his pace, bowled a bouncer to Kishan. Kishan tried to duck under the ball, but felt pain in his back at that moment and walked out of the nets session midway. Team India physio Kamlesh Jain then examined him. After staying away from the nets for a while, Kishan returned to batting, which is being taken as a sign that the injury is not too serious.

The question now is whether Ishan Kishan will be able to play the first T20 against Afghanistan. The decision rests with India captain Shreyas Iyer and head coach Gautam Gambhir. The injury is a particular concern for the team because Kishan has been in excellent form recently. He recently played innings of 270 and 80 runs in the Duleep Trophy final to help his team to victory. He is also said to have been hitting sixes and fours freely against spin bowlers during the practice session. However, how serious the injury is and whether he will be able to play in the series will only become clear after the team's medical assessment over the next 24 hours.
