Tata Motors has pulled off a feat in August 2026 that has surprised everyone. The company's vehicle sales rose 56 percent, with Tata selling a total of 67,753 passenger vehicles last month. The biggest reason behind these numbers is the growing demand for EV and CNG vehicles, and on the back of this, Tata has further strengthened its position in the Indian market.

Whether petrol, diesel, CNG or electric, Tata has rolled out vehicles in every segment and people are taking to them. Over the past few years, the company has significantly improved its vehicles, boosted safety and added new features, and the effect of this is now clearly visible in the sales numbers.

In August, Tata sold more than 16,000 electric vehicles. Electric vehicles accounted for about 25 percent of total sales, meaning one in every four vehicles sold was electric. The Tata Punch EV and Nexon EV have both been widely embraced by buyers. Longer range, a 5-star safety rating and the availability of charging stations everywhere are prompting people to move away from petrol and diesel towards electric.

Alongside EVs, there is also strong demand for CNG vehicles. CNG models account for 28 percent of Tata's total sales. The Tata Tiago, Tigor, Punch and Altroz all offer a CNG option. The biggest feature of these vehicles is that boot space is not reduced, because Tata has used a twin-cylinder technology that preserves the full boot space. These CNG vehicles also come with an automatic gear option, which no other company currently offers.

The Tata Punch and Nexon remain the company's star performers. The Punch has become the best-selling SUV, with its road presence, higher ground clearance and lower price proving popular with buyers. Meanwhile, Tata's new Curvv has also received a good response, with its distinctly different look drawing in younger buyers.

Tata Motors does not plan to stop here. The company will launch more new vehicles in the coming period, with a particular focus on the electric and CNG segments. It expects that safety, low maintenance and new models will further boost sales during the Diwali festive season. Tata has given Maruti stiff competition and won the trust of customers. There was a time when Tata's vehicles drew little interest, but the situation has completely changed today.
