16-tonne container of suspect meat bound for Taloja logistics park seized

A container heading towards Navi Mumbai was stopped midway by activists of a Hindutva organisation. The container had around 16 tonnes of suspected meat loaded in it and had come from Uttar Pradesh. According to initial information, the container was headed to the cold storage of a warehouse at Lodha Logistics Park in the Taloja area. The discovery of such a large quantity of meat being transported during the days of Paryushan caused a stir in the area.

Activists of the Hindutva organisation had already received information that a suspicious container was coming from Uttar Pradesh towards Navi Mumbai carrying a large quantity of meat. The activists then followed the vehicle and stopped it. When the container was inspected, around 16 tonnes of meat was found inside. The activists immediately informed the local Hill Line police. On receiving the information, a police team and officials from the Food and Drug Administration reached the spot. Police have taken the container into custody and begun further investigation.

It has not yet been established which animal the meat found in the container belongs to, so it would not be correct at this stage to call it beef. A team of doctors was called in for scientific examination of the meat. Samples were taken in their presence from different parts and sent to a forensic lab. It will only be clear what kind of meat it is once the lab report comes in, and police will take further legal action based on that.

According to initial information from police, the meat in the container was being taken to be stored in the cold storage of a warehouse at Lodha Logistics Park in Taloja. Efforts are now on to establish who transported the meat, where it actually originated from, and to whom it was to be supplied further.

Police are also investigating whether a larger racket lies behind the case. It is considered necessary to examine the documents required for transport, the source of the meat, the supplier concerned, and the final customer or delivery location.

Meanwhile, Hindutva organisations have taken an aggressive stance on the matter, demanding a thorough investigation and strict action against those found guilty. However, which animal the meat belongs to will only be determined once the forensic report is in, so until then it will be correct to refer to it only as "suspicious meat".
