Property dealer threatened at gunpoint, extorted for Rs 50,000 in Nagpur
Two men allegedly threatened a Sadar property dealer with a pistol, beat him and demanded Rs 50,000 in extortion money
A property dealer in the Sadar area of Nagpur was allegedly threatened with a pistol and extorted for Rs 50,000. When he refused to pay, the accused assaulted him and threatened to kill him, raising questions about law and order in the area.
The complainant, Vishal Mishra (40), a resident of Azad Chowk, Sadar, works as a property dealer. According to his complaint to police, on the night of September 11 at around 8 pm, Vishal was talking with a friend while seated in a car when Akash Kataria and Lakhan Hiranwar arrived at the spot.
The two allegedly began beating Vishal and demanded Rs 50,000 from him to continue running their business in the area. Akash allegedly pulled out a pistol and threatened Vishal with it. When he refused to pay, the accused threatened to kill him, badly frightening Vishal and his friend.
Based on Vishal's complaint, Sadar police have registered a case against Akash Kataria and Lakhan Hiranwar. Both accused are reported to be absconding since the incident, and police are searching for them.
Police said accused Lakhan Hiranwar's name is linked to the Hiranwar gang, and that he had recently come out of jail on bail in a murder case. According to police records, the other accused, Akash Kataria, already has 11 criminal cases registered against him. However, the actual status of all these cases will only be confirmed after police investigation.
Sadar police have taken the case seriously and stepped up the search for the accused. They are also investigating whether the pistol used to threaten the victim was real or fake, and if real, how it reached the accused. Police are further checking whether the accused had previously demanded extortion in a similar manner from any other trader or individual.
Police are also scanning CCTV camera footage from around the scene and gathering other evidence related to the case. The investigation is being led by API Nitin Vithole and his team, and the search for the absconding accused is ongoing.
