Big PCB shake-up: Aqib Javed set to be axed, Shahid Afridi buzz for chief selector

Nobody knows when or how changes will be made at the Pakistan Cricket Board and in the Pakistan team. The PCB recently dropped seven players from the squad for the England tour. Not only that, head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and fast bowling coach Umar Gul were also removed from their posts. There is now speculation that Shahid Afridi could join the PCB.

The Pakistan cricket team has been facing criticism from around the world, and fans too have been venting their anger at the PCB. The PCB has made several major changes recently, and now chief selector Aqib Javed could also be replaced. Former Pakistan player Mohammad Wasim has said that chief selector Aqib Javed will be removed from the role. Speaking to YouTuber Nauman Niaz, Wasim revealed that a new chief selector will be appointed soon, and that Aqib Javed, considered close to Mohsin Naqvi, will be removed from the post. Wasim was then asked who the new chief selector would be. He did not name the person directly but said "Lala", which is Shahid Afridi's nickname. Wasim further said that the new chief selector will be given wide powers and the freedom to take several key decisions. However, it remains to be seen whether he agrees to take on the role.

The world watched Pakistan's embarrassing performance on the England tour. Pakistan lost the first Test to England by an innings and 103 runs. Not only that, they also lost the second Test by 194 runs. In the third Test too, Pakistan lost by 8 wickets. England whitewashed Pakistan in the series.

The PCB had left out seven players, including Imam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha, from the England tour. Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq are currently under investigation by the Cyber Crime branch. Besides this, a show-cause notice has also been sent to the selection committee over their selection. Meanwhile, after returning to Pakistan, Salman Ali Agha answered his critics by scoring a triple century in first-class cricket.
