Freelander 8 SUV gets 5,000 bookings in 12 hours ahead of launch
Chery Jaguar Land Rover's Freelander 8 SUV received over 5,000 orders within 12 hours of its launch, with deliveries in China starting September 19.
Chery Jaguar Land Rover, known for its premium and luxury vehicles, has launched its new and long-awaited SUV, the Freelander 8. The launch has triggered significant discussion in the auto industry and drawn a strong response from customers.
The SUV was officially launched on September 3 and reached peak popularity within hours. It received more than 5,000 orders within just 12 hours of launch. Official deliveries in China will begin from September 19. The SUV is priced between approximately 289,900 and 379,900 yuan (an estimated 42,600 to 55,900 US dollars).
The Freelander 8's design is based on the brand's signature square box look and is inspired by the "Concept 97". The front of the vehicle has a closed-off design with rectangular headlights. The SUV is 5118 mm long, 2050 mm wide and 1898 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3040 mm.
The interior is modern and luxurious, featuring a 46.3-inch panoramic display and a 15.6-inch LED central control screen. For passenger comfort, it also offers dual zero-gravity seats, a folding table and an onboard refrigerator.
In terms of technology, the SUV is quite advanced. It features a roof-mounted LiDAR sensor and is equipped with the Huawei Qiankun ADS 5.0 intelligent driving system. It uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8397 chip. It also has the i-ATS intelligent all-terrain system, developed in collaboration with Huawei, which supports 20 different terrain modes.
The Freelander 8 has a 60.3 kilowatt-hour CATL Freevoy battery pack. Its 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine works as a range extender, while two electric motors generate 818 bhp and 813 Nm of torque. The rear electric motor alone produces up to 335 bhp and is linked to a two-speed transmission.
Chery-JLR claims the SUV has an electric range of up to 310 km (CLTC). It has an 800-volt electrical architecture that supports 6C charging. The company claims that using a fast charger, the battery can charge from 20 percent to 80 percent in just 12 minutes.
