Amid Farakka water row, Samrat Choudhary calls meeting of BJP ministers

Bihar politics has been stirred up once again. Amid JDU's aggressive stance on the Farakka water treaty issue, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has called an urgent meeting of all BJP-quota ministers. The meeting is said to be scheduled for Friday evening at 5 pm at the Chief Minister's residence.

All BJP-quota ministers have been directed to attend the meeting. Ministers who are currently outside Patna or Bihar have also been called back to Patna immediately, according to sources. The suddenly called meeting has set off speculation in Bihar's political circles.

At the party level, the meeting is being linked to preparations for events marking 25 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's public life. But given the current political developments in Bihar, there is speculation about the timing of the meeting. It is being viewed through a political lens, especially since it comes after JDU's stand on the Farakka water treaty and a statement by Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Jha.

JDU has been running a programme called "Nitish Samvad on the Farakka Water Treaty" in different districts of Bihar. At one such event in Begusarai, Sanjay Jha took a sharp stance on the Farakka treaty issue. He said, "Whether we remain in power or not, we will not compromise on Bihar's water." This statement triggered political discussion about the roles of JDU and BJP in Bihar.

According to Sanjay Jha, Bihar has faced injustice on the Farakka water treaty issue since 1996. He claims several parts of Bihar face floods during the monsoon, while the state does not get the required amount of water when it needs it. This is why JDU is more aggressively pushing the demand to reconsider the Farakka water treaty. It is being said that the party is also trying to build pressure on the NDA government at the Centre through this issue.

BJP and JDU are the main constituent parties of the NDA government in Bihar. Following the JDU senior leader's remark about remaining in power or not, political circles are watching the next moves of both parties closely. Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary's decision to call a meeting of only BJP-quota ministers has added to the speculation. However, there has been no official confirmation that this meeting is linked to differences within the NDA.

All BJP ministers are expected to attend the meeting.
