Nagpur property dealer booked under Atrocity Act over YouTube remarks
A Nagpur property dealer has been booked under the Atrocity Act after a woman accused him of caste based remarks in a YouTube interview.

Nagpur's Gittikhadan police have registered a case against a property dealer under the Atrocity Act on a complaint filed by a woman social worker. The accused has been identified as Vijay Matte, a resident of Beltarodi. The complainant is a 45 year old woman residing within the jurisdiction of Wadi police station.
In her complaint to the police, the woman said she has known Vijay Matte since 2005. The two earlier worked together in property dealing, handling the purchase and sale of land and houses, and had also developed a family relationship through this work. According to the complaint, Vijay allegedly cheated her in 2013, after which she had filed a police case against him. The dispute between the two thus goes back about ten years, the complaint shows.
The latest dispute stems from a land matter. According to the complaint, a person named Kisan Uike owns about 1.30 hectares of land in the Hazari Pahad area. His legal heirs had entrusted the complainant with the process of getting the land transferred into their names, meaning she was responsible for the documents and records related to the transfer. As part of this responsibility, she had put up a signboard bearing her name at the site.
The woman alleges that on June 17, Vijay Matte and Mahesh Uike broke this signboard. She had complained to the police about this immediately. A few days later, on July 25, she held a press conference on the entire matter and publicly stated her side.
According to the complaint, the day after this press conference, the woman was sitting at another woman's house in the Hazari Pahad area when she came across an interview of Vijay Matte broadcast on YouTube on the Maharashtra TV-24 channel. The woman alleges that in this interview, Vijay named her and made extremely objectionable remarks against her, publicly defaming her by referring to her caste.
After watching this interview, the woman filed a complaint about the entire matter with the Gittikhadan police. Based on the complaint, police have registered a case against property dealer Vijay Matte under the Atrocity Act and begun an investigation. Police are now verifying the allegations made in the complaint and the facts related to the YouTube interview.
