Gold, silver worth Rs 1.5 lakh stolen from railway quarters in Mool

Thieves stole gold and silver jewellery worth more than Rs 1.5 lakh from a railway quarter in Mool town. The theft came to light after the family had gone to their native village for the Pola festival holidays, leaving the house locked. Taking advantage of this, the thieves broke the lock on the main door of the quarter and entered.

Sudesh Purnanand Alone, 40, an employee of the Mool railway department and a resident of Chiroli village, lives in railway quarter number E-2 with his wife and son. Because his son's school was closed for the Pola festival, the Alone family locked the main iron gate of the quarter around 9 am on September 11, 2026, and left for their village Chiroli, and from there went on to relatives in Brahmapuri.

On September 13, at around 10 am, an employee living near the quarter called Sudesh Alone and told him that the lock on his house was broken and theft was suspected. On getting this news, Alone came straight to Mool from Brahmapuri. On reaching home, he found the wooden wardrobe in the bedroom open, with clothes scattered inside.

A search of the wardrobe revealed that a 15-gram gold chain worth Rs 67,500, a 5-gram ring, gold bali worth Rs 22,500, gold nath worth Rs 13,500, gold biri worth Rs 13,500, and 50-gram silver panjan worth Rs 10,000 were all missing. In total, gold and silver jewellery worth Rs 1,49,500 was stolen.

Following Sudesh Alone's complaint, a case of house-breaking and theft has been registered at Mool police station against an unknown accused under sections 305 and 331(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Police Inspector Suresh Kannake is investigating the case under the guidance of station in-charge Vijay Rathod. The brazen theft at the railway quarter, located in a densely populated area, has caused fear among local residents.
