Monthly Shivratri to be observed on September 9, not 10: dates and muhurat timings

The Shivratri of Bhadrapada month will this time fall on the Krishna Paksha Chaturdashi date. The Chaturdashi date begins on September 9, while by the udayatithi (sunrise date) method Chaturdashi falls on September 10. Bhadrapada month itself will begin on the afternoon of Shivratri day. This has left people wondering which day September's monthly Shivratri should actually be observed.
According to the Panchang, the Krishna Paksha Chaturdashi date of Bhadrapada month will begin at 12:30 pm on Wednesday, September 9, and will last until 10:33 am on Thursday, September 10. Going by udayatithi, Chaturdashi falls on September 10, but Amavasya sets in that day during the Nishita muhurat. For Shivratri, the Chaturdashi date is required to include the Nishita muhurat, and this condition is met on September 9. For this reason, according to scripture, the Shivratri of Bhadrapada month will be observed on Wednesday, September 9.
On this monthly Shivratri falling on September 9, the auspicious time for Nishita puja will be from 11:55 pm to 12:41 am. The Brahma muhurat is from 4:31 am to 5:17 am, while no Abhijit muhurat is formed on Wednesday. That day, Amrit Kaal will last from 1:43 pm to 3:14 pm and Vijay muhurat from 2:23 pm to 3:13 pm. Those observing a fast for September's Shivratri should bathe during the Brahma muhurat, take the vow of fasting and worship, and then offer water to Lord Shiva and perform the puja.
This time, both Shiv Yoga and Siddha Yoga, two auspicious yogas, are being formed on Shivratri. Shiv Yoga will last from morning until 9:52 pm, considered good for kirtan, meditation, yoga and worship. After 9:52 pm, Siddha Yoga will begin, during which undertaken tasks are said to succeed. Ashlesha Nakshatra will last from morning until 3:14 pm that day, after which Magha Nakshatra will begin.
On Shivratri day, Bhadra Kaal will begin at 12:30 pm and continue until 11:29 pm. This Bhadra remains on earth, so any auspicious work should be avoided during this period as it is believed to bring obstacles. However, there is no problem in worshipping Shiva during this time.
Monthly Shivratri is considered dedicated to the worship of Lord Shiva. On this day, devotees observe a fast and worship the Shivling by offering water, milk, bel leaves and flowers. They also chant Shiva mantras and recite the Shiv Chalisa. It is believed that worshipping Shiva with true devotion and the correct method brings peace of mind and the blessings of Shiva. Worshipping Shiva at night is considered especially important.
Water, Gangajal, milk, bel leaves, white flowers, dhatura, sandalwood, incense and lamps can be used in the worship of Shiva. Offerings may be made according to one's devotion and means. Before offering anything to the Shivling, it is advisable to also keep in mind the tradition followed at one's local temple.
