Maruti Suzuki brings CNG automatic option to Swift, Dzire and Baleno
Maruti Suzuki has launched AMT gearbox variants for CNG versions of the Swift, Dzire and Baleno, priced from Rs 7.92 lakh
Maruti Suzuki has launched CNG automatic, or AMT, variants of three of its popular models, the Swift, Dzire and Baleno, in the Indian market. Until now, CNG cars mostly came only with a manual gearbox option, but buyers can now get an automatic gearbox with CNG as well, which the company says will make driving in city traffic easier.
The Swift CNG AMT has a starting ex-showroom price of Rs 7.92 lakh. The Baleno CNG AMT starts at Rs 8.32 lakh, while the Dzire CNG AMT has a starting ex-showroom price of Rs 8.53 lakh. The company has clarified that these are introductory prices and may change later.
The three cars are also expected to attract customers on mileage. The Dzire CNG AMT leads with a claimed mileage of up to 36.47 km per kg. It is followed by the Swift CNG AMT at 35.34 km per kg and the Baleno CNG AMT at 34.47 km per kg.
The biggest advantage of an automatic gearbox is that it reduces the need to repeatedly press the clutch and change gears in traffic, which the company says could prove useful for those who drive in the city every day.
These CNG models use IGS technology, which the company claims helps control fuel usage to deliver better mileage.
In terms of sales, the Swift and Dzire will be available through the Arena network, while the Baleno will be sold through NEXA dealerships.
Maruti Suzuki's CNG portfolio includes popular models such as the WagonR, Celerio, Swift, Dzire, Baleno, Fronx, Brezza, Ertiga and XL6, making it one of the largest CNG car portfolios in the market.
