MG Motor launches Battery-as-a-Service plan for Cyberster, M9 EV
MG Select rolls out a BaaS option that cuts upfront prices on the Cyberster and M9 EV, charging separately for battery use per kilometre
MG Motor has introduced a new option for electric car buyers. Under its premium retail network MG Select, the company has launched a Battery as a Service, or BaaS, scheme for two luxury electric cars, the Cyberster and the M9 EV. Under this model, the price of the car and the cost of using the battery are counted separately.
Under the scheme, the car's starting price is kept lower by comparison, but customers pay a per kilometre charge for the battery based on the distance driven. The BaaS price for the Cyberster is Rs 72.49 lakh, while the M9 EV's BaaS price starts at Rs 69.99 lakh. Battery rental for both cars has been set at Rs 8 per kilometre. Any other applicable charges will be levied separately.
The Cyberster is a sporty electric roadster. It gets a 77 kWh battery pack and a dual motor setup. Together, the two motors produce 503.02 bhp of power and 725 Nm of torque. According to the company, the car can go from 0 to 100 kmph in just 3.2 seconds. Its range is stated at up to 580 km, though the actual range may vary depending on driving style, traffic and road conditions.
The M9 EV, on the other hand, is a premium electric MPV with a 90 kWh NMC battery. Its electric motor generates 241.65 bhp of power and 350 Nm of torque. The company says the M9 EV's range can go up to 548 km. The MPV comes with features such as a 12.3 inch touchscreen, a panoramic sunroof, automatic climate control and a 13-speaker sound system. Rear passengers get presidential seats with 16-way adjustment, a massage mode, and heating and ventilation.
The company is offering both these premium EV models to customers through MG Select. With the BaaS option, buyers now have a way to keep the upfront cost of purchasing a luxury EV lower.
