Fadnavis orders all Amrit-2 works in Nagpur completed by March 2027

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has ordered that development works underway in Nagpur city be sped up. He gave officials a clear directive that all works under the Amrit-2 scheme be completed by March 2027, quickly and with good quality.

The order was given at a meeting held at the Ramgiri government residence. The meeting discussed in detail the Amrit-2 scheme works in Nagpur, the digging up of roads and their subsequent refilling, and also the issue of eliminating pollution spread in the Pohra river and reviving the river. The meeting was attended by MLA Praveen Datke, standing committee chairperson Shivani Dani, municipal commissioner Dr Vipin Itankar, and officials from various departments.

Roads have been dug up at several places in the city for Amrit-2 works. Complaints were raised at the meeting that people are facing problems because roads have not been properly repaired after digging. The issue of difficulties faced by people during the monsoon season was also raised.

Fadnavis stated clearly that no laxity would be tolerated in the refilling of roads. He directed that scientific and standard methods be strictly followed, especially while working on cement roads. He also ordered that a meeting of all departments concerned with road digging and refilling be called to jointly draw up a complete policy going forward.

The Chief Minister also warned that strict action would be taken against officials and contractors found negligent in the work.

The meeting also discussed the issue of pollution in the Pohra river. Municipal commissioner Dr Itankar gave a presentation on the project. Sewage treatment plants (STPs) will be set up at different locations to reduce pollution in the river.

There are plans to set up an STP of 10 MLD capacity at Jaitala and one of 35 MLD capacity at Chikhli. Pumping stations will also be built at Chinchbhavan, BD Peth and Somalwada, the meeting was informed.

Completing the Amrit-2 works within the set deadline is now a challenge for the administration. It will need to focus on reducing the trouble caused to people by road digging, while also completing the project to revive the Pohra river on time.
