Storm kills two in Savner, tree fall and lightning blamed

The weather in Savner turned suddenly on Friday evening. Heavy rain, strong winds and thunder threw normal life into disarray, and two people were killed in two separate incidents during the storm.

The first incident occurred on Chhindwara Road, where a large, decayed mango tree standing in front of the electricity department office was uprooted in the strong wind. The tree fell on Watan Garage located by the roadside. People present at the garage at the time were trapped under the tree, causing panic at the spot. As news spread, a large number of local residents gathered and began rescue work.

Mushtaq Gulam Shaikh (42), a resident of Chichpura, Savner, who ran the garage, was badly trapped under the tree. The tree had to be cut to free him. Social worker Hitesh Bansod and other local residents worked with machines to pull him out and took him to the rural hospital, where doctors examined him and declared him dead. Mushtaq was the father of three children, and his sudden death has devastated the family.

Sachin Diyewar (25), a resident of Gadegaon, was also seriously injured in the same incident. He too was pulled out from under the tree and taken to the rural hospital, but given the seriousness of his condition, he was referred to Nagpur city after first aid.

The second incident took place in Savner town, where Sahil Sattar Shah (24), a resident of Sarvodaya Nagar, was killed by lightning. According to reports, lightning suddenly struck near an old water tank in Sarvodaya Nagar during heavy rain, and Sahil was killed after being struck. On learning of the incident, police and administrative officials reached the spot and began necessary action.

The two incidents, occurring on the same evening amid rain and storm, have cast a pall of mourning over Savner.
