Heat persists in Maharashtra, rain with thunder alert for Nandurbar-Dhule today, weather to shift from Friday
Maharashtra swelters under 33-plus degree heat as rain stays away, but forecasters say a wider spell returns to Vidarbha and Marathwada from Friday.

Most parts of Maharashtra have gone without rain for several days, pushing temperatures past 33 degrees Celsius and leaving people to contend with harsh sun and humidity. According to the latest weather forecast, Nandurbar and Dhule districts in north Maharashtra may see rain with thunder today. The rest of the state will see mixed sun and clouds, with only isolated light showers likely.
A cyclonic circulation is currently active over eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar up to 3.1 km above sea level. The monsoon trough runs from Firozpur, Muzaffarnagar, Basti and Dehri to Digha and further to the northeast Bay of Bengal. Another low-pressure line extends from south Gujarat to the cyclonic circulation area in Uttar Pradesh, and a low-pressure area is also active from Telangana to the Gulf of Mannar. The monsoon is normal along the Konkan coast but has weakened somewhat over central Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha.
Rain has taken a break across the state, keeping the cycle of sun and clouds going, with rising temperatures bringing intense heat and humidity. The weather department has issued an alert for Nandurbar and Dhule in view of the expected rain with thunder today, while most of the rest of Maharashtra will get relief from rain, with only light drizzle expected. The department said clouds will persist over parts of the state today and tomorrow with light rain, but conditions are not favourable for heavy or intense rain. However, a major change in the weather and the return of rain is expected from Friday.
The weather will change significantly from Friday, with light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder starting in some districts of Vidarbha. On Friday, isolated rain with thunder is expected in Nagpur, Wardha, Yavatmal, Chandrapur and Gadchiroli districts of Vidarbha, as well as Nanded and Hingoli districts of Marathwada.
The intensity and spread of rain is expected to increase further on Saturday. Chandrapur and Gadchiroli districts in Vidarbha may get moderate to heavy rain, while Buldhana, Akola, Amravati, Wardha, Nagpur, Yavatmal, Bhandara and Gondia districts are likely to see light to moderate rain. Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Beed, Nanded, Parbhani and Hingoli districts of Marathwada may get light to moderate rain, while Dharashiv and Latur districts are expected to remain cloudy with isolated light drizzle.
Nashik, Ahilyanagar and Pune districts in central Maharashtra are expected to get light to moderate rain with thunder, while Satara, Sangli, Solapur, Jalgaon and Nandurbar districts will remain cloudy with light drizzle in some places. In the Konkan region, Raigad and Thane districts are expected to get light to moderate rain, while Mumbai and Palghar districts will remain cloudy with light showers likely.
