Rain returns to Maharashtra today, heavier spells expected from tomorrow

For the past few days, people across Maharashtra have been troubled by strong sun and humidity. Rain had taken a sudden pause and the maximum temperature had risen considerably, making the weather quite hot. But the weather department has now issued an important update saying this humid spell is set to end soon, as conditions favourable for rain are building over the state again.

Today, some parts of north Maharashtra and Marathwada are expected to see rain with thunder. From tomorrow, a spell of heavy rain is expected over Vidarbha, Marathwada and central Maharashtra.

On the current weather situation, cyclonic wind conditions have formed at a height of 5.8 km above sea level over the north Bay of Bengal near the Bangladesh coast. Under the influence of these winds, a low-pressure area is likely to form today. In addition, the monsoon trough, a low-pressure belt, currently extends from Jammu through Dehradun, Pantnagar, Basti, Chhapra, Purulia and Digha to the east-central Bay of Bengal.

Separately, another low-pressure belt is active stretching from Rayalaseema to the Gulf of Mannar. Cyclonic winds are also blowing over Saurashtra and surrounding areas at a height of 5.8 to 7.6 km.

On today's district-wise forecast: in the Konkan region, light rain is expected in Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg. In north Maharashtra, light rain is expected in Dhule, Jalgaon and Nashik districts. Light rain with thunder is possible in the Nashik ghat areas and Nandurbar, while the weather in Ahilyanagar district is likely to remain mostly dry.

In western Maharashtra, light rain is expected in Pune, Kolhapur, the Kolhapur ghat areas and Satara. Light drizzle with thunder is possible in the Pune ghat and Satara ghat areas, but the weather in Sangli and Solapur districts is likely to remain mostly dry. In Marathwada, light rain is possible in Latur and Hingoli districts, while Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed and Dharashiv are likely to stay mostly dry.

Because of the long gap in rain, the state is currently seeing alternating sun and cloud. Meanwhile, rising temperatures have left people troubled by heat and humidity. According to the weather department, rain with thunder is possible today in Nandurbar and the Nashik ghat areas of north Maharashtra, and in Nanded district. The rest of Maharashtra will see cloud cover with a mix of sun and cloud, and mostly a gap in rain, with only isolated light rain likely.

According to the 10-day temperature forecast, the maximum temperature on Friday, September 11 will be 33 degrees Celsius and the minimum 27 degrees Celsius. On Saturday, September 12, the maximum will be 31 and the minimum 26 degrees Celsius, and on Sunday, September 13, the maximum is expected at 29 and the minimum at 27 degrees Celsius. On Monday, September 14, the maximum will be 30 and the minimum 26 degrees Celsius, and on Tuesday, September 15, the maximum will be 33 and the minimum 26 degrees Celsius. On Wednesday, September 16, the maximum will be 32 and the minimum 27 degrees Celsius, while on September 17, 18 and 19, the maximum is expected at 32 and the minimum at 26 degrees Celsius. On Sunday, September 20, the maximum temperature is expected to be 33 degrees Celsius and the minimum 26 degrees Celsius.
