Maharashtra on red-orange alert for 24 hours, heavy rain warning in 30 districts

Rain that had paused for a few days has returned to Maharashtra. A weather system favourable for rain is becoming active, and heavy rain is likely in several parts of the state over the next two days. A yellow alert has been issued for most areas of the state for September 12.

In the Konkan division, Palghar, Thane, Mumbai and Raigad districts are under a yellow alert, with winds of 30 to 40 kilometres per hour expected. Some places will see light to moderate rain with thunder, while a few spots could get heavy rain. Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts have no alert, though light showers are expected in some places.

In North Maharashtra, a yellow alert has been issued for Dhule, Nandurbar, Jalgaon, Ahilyanagar, Nashik and the Nashik ghat area. Winds of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour are expected along with thundery, stormy rain, and moderate to heavy rain in some areas. Dhule and Nandurbar have been given an orange alert for the following day.

In Western Maharashtra, Pune, the Pune ghat area and Solapur are also under a yellow alert, with stormy winds and light to moderate rain, and heavy to very heavy rain in some places. Kolhapur, Satara and Sangli have no alert, but local showers and strong winds are expected there too.

Rain is also set to intensify in Marathwada. A yellow alert has been issued for Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Parbhani, Beed, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur and Dharashiv districts, with winds of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour, lightning, stormy winds and light to heavy rain expected.

Vidarbha is expected to see the biggest impact. Heavy to very heavy rain is forecast in Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Buldhana, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Washim, Wardha and Yavatmal districts, with winds of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour, and a yellow alert has been issued for these districts.

Overall, a yellow alert is in force for most of Maharashtra on September 12, with light to moderate rain in some places and heavy rain in others. This pattern is expected to continue for the next two days. The rain, returning after several days of dry weather, has brought some relief to people and farmers, though how long it will last remains to be seen.

On temperature, the maximum on September 13 is expected to be 29 degrees Celsius and the minimum 27 degrees Celsius. In the following days, the maximum temperature will gradually rise to between 30 and 33 degrees Celsius, while the minimum will stay around 26 to 27 degrees Celsius.
