Katraj Dairy raises cow, buffalo milk purchase price by Re 1 from September 11
Pune district's Katraj Dairy has raised the purchase price of cow and buffalo milk by Re 1 per litre, effective September 11, without changing retail rates.

Milk producers in Pune district have received a piece of good news amid the Ganeshotsav festivities. The Pune District Cooperative Milk Producers' Union, known as Katraj Dairy, has decided to raise the purchase price of cow and buffalo milk by Re 1 per litre. The union's chairman, Arun Chambhare, said the new rate will come into effect across Pune district from September 11.
Under the new rate, farmers will now get 40 rupees 80 paise per litre for cow milk with 3.5 fat and 8.5 SNF. The purchase price of buffalo milk with 6.0 fat and 9.0 SNF will go up to 54 rupees per litre.
Despite paying farmers more, the union has not passed on the burden to customers. The retail selling price of milk has not been changed, meaning buyers will continue to pay the same price as before, while farmers will get a bigger share of the profit on their milk.
Chairman Arun Chambhare said demand for milk and milk products is continuously rising, while the cost of running the dairy business has also gone up. This is why the board of directors decided to raise the purchase rate, so that farmers get fair compensation for their effort. Along with a rise in the cost of cattle feed and fodder, fuel and transport costs have also increased, pushing up the cost of milk production considerably. According to Chambhare, this price hike will provide financial support to thousands of milk producers in the district.
The union also clarified that the decision takes into account the interests of both farmers and customers. To give farmers relief amid rising production costs, while ensuring no additional burden falls on customers, the retail rate has been kept unchanged.
Chairman Arun Chambhare appealed to milk producers to supply the union only clean, fresh, unadulterated and good-quality milk. He said the union is fully committed to providing good-quality milk to customers in Pune city and district, while also taking decisions necessary in the interest of milk producers.
