Nagpur: 9 kg ganja worth over Rs 12 lakh seized in Kanhan, three arrested
Nagpur Rural Police's NDPS team held three men and seized ganja, an SUV, phones and cash worth over Rs 12 lakh in Kanhan.

The NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) team of Nagpur Rural Police has arrested three people on charges of smuggling and supplying ganja in the Kanhan area. Police seized around 9 kg of ganja, an SUV, three mobile phones and cash from them, together valued at around Rs 12.12 lakh.
According to police, the NDPS team had received specific information that a person was bringing ganja from Odisha to supply in the Kanhan area. Acting on this tip, police stepped up surveillance in the area and began watching suspicious activity.
Based on the same tip, the team took three suspects into custody and searched them. The search turned up around 9 kg of ganja, valued at around Rs 1.80 lakh.
The arrested accused have been identified as Suraj Rajendra Chavan (30, resident of Dighoda, Uttar Pradesh), Himanshu Nandlal Sharma (26, resident of Dighoda, Uttar Pradesh) and Shubham Kapildev Shahi (32, resident of Kanhan).
Besides the ganja, police also seized an XUV-300 vehicle bearing registration number UP 57 BP 7610, valued at around Rs 10 lakh. Three mobile phones worth around Rs 30,000 and cash of Rs 2,500 were also recovered. The total value of the property seized has been put at Rs 12,12,500.
Initial investigation has found that the ganja was brought from Odisha to be distributed further in Kanhan. Police are now investigating where the ganja came from and who it was meant to be supplied to.
The entire operation was carried out under the guidance of Nagpur Rural Superintendent of Police Harsh Poddar, Additional Superintendent of Police Anil Maske and the Deputy SP of Kanhan. The NDPS team included API Ajit Singh Dewar, PSI Praveen Bhimate, Praveen Devhare, Amrit Kinge, Prakash Dhoke, Napok Amol Nagre, police constable Anil and driver Avinash Tumdam.
Teams from the Local Crime Branch and Kanhan police station also assisted in the operation. PSI Gupta and police constable Praneet Dahiwale from Kanhan police station were also part of the action.
Cases have been registered against the accused under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is under way. Police are trying to trace a larger network linked to the smuggling and supply of ganja.
