Jalgaon: Missing woman's body found in forest, murder suspected over friendship dispute
A woman missing since September 8 was found dead in a forest near Jalgaon, allegedly killed by a man she was friendly with.
The body of a woman living in the Rameshwar Colony area of Jalgaon city was found in the Padmalaya forest, causing panic in the area. The deceased woman has been identified as Kavita Arun Mistry. The body was found in the forest area on September 13. Initial investigation revealed that Kavita was killed by a blow to the head with a stone. Police have taken a man named Naresh alias Aaba Anil Sonawane into custody in connection with the case.
Kavita Mistry had been missing since September 8. When she did not return home for several days, her family began searching for her, after which a kidnapping complaint was filed at Jalgaon MIDC police station. Police began searching for the woman based on local information and technical investigation.
During the investigation, police attention turned to the relationship between Kavita and Naresh Sonawane. It emerged that the two were friendly with each other. The investigation also found that the two had quarrelled a day before Kavita went missing. Police suspect that on September 8, Naresh told Kavita he was taking her to a clinic, after which the two left on a motorcycle. During this time, Kavita reportedly made a video call to her friends and told them she was going with Naresh, according to the investigation.
Police checked the mobile phone locations of Kavita and Naresh, and found that the last location of both phones was in the Mhasawad area. Both phones were switched off after that, deepening police suspicion. On September 13, Kavita's body was found in the forest in the Padmalaya area. The condition of the body indicated in the preliminary investigation that she had been attacked, after which the earlier kidnapping case was redirected as a murder investigation.
Based on technical information and police investigation, Naresh alias Aaba Sonawane was traced and taken into custody from Jalgaon city itself. Police suspect the case may be linked to a dispute arising from their old relationship.
Superintendent of Police Shrikant Dhivare said the preliminary investigation suggests the case may have stemmed from suspicion of an illicit relationship. However, the exact reason behind the killing, what actually happened at the time of the incident, and whether anyone else was involved in the crime are still under investigation. A case has been registered against the suspect at Jalgaon MIDC police station and further investigation is under way. The incident has caused panic across Rameshwar Colony and the whole of Jalgaon city.
