Panchamrit is made with great enthusiasm during the Gauri-Ganpati festival or on any special occasion at home. This tangy-spicy panchamrit is always served in the naivedya thali. But many times, while making it, the taste goes completely wrong. Sometimes it turns out too sour, and sometimes too sweet.

To make panchamrit in the right proportion and the right way, it is important to follow a few simple tips. This also enhances the taste of the dish further. Tamarind and jaggery are considered very beneficial not just for taste but also for health. So panchamrit can be made on ordinary days too, to enhance the taste of food. Here is an easy recipe for making tangy-spicy panchamrit.

The ingredients needed for this include tamarind, jaggery, crushed peanuts, crushed sesame seeds, green chillies, curry leaves, salt, red chilli powder, turmeric, garam masala, asafoetida, mustard seeds and cumin seeds, and oil.

To prepare it, first soak the tamarind in hot water. After about ten minutes, extract the tamarind pulp by hand. After this, heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, asafoetida, curry leaves and pieces of green chilli, and roast on low heat.

Once the chillies are well roasted, add the tamarind pulp and mix. Once the tamarind mixture comes to a light boil, add the roasted crushed peanuts and roasted crushed sesame seeds and mix.

After this, add red chilli powder, turmeric, garam masala and coriander powder and mix well. Add salt to taste to the mixture.

After this, add jaggery to the prepared mixture and cover it. Once the mixture gradually thickens, turn off the gas and sprinkle finely chopped coriander leaves on top.

This is how the easy-to-make tangy-spicy panchamrit is ready. This dish is made especially as an offering (prasad) for Bappa.
