Police raid Gadchandur woman's house, seize 846g of ganja

Gadchandur police carried out a major raid on a house in Bhandari Colony in Korpana taluka on Tuesday afternoon, recovering 846 grams of ganja valued at around Rs 42,300. A case has been registered against a woman identified as Namita Vivekanand Biswas.

Namita Biswas, 37, is a resident of Bhandari Colony, Ward No. 4, Gadchandur. She has been arrested under the NDPS Act and taken into custody along with the seized contraband.

Police Sub-Inspector Ganesh Rajendra Anbhule of Gadchandur police station received a tip-off on Tuesday afternoon that Namita Biswas was secretly storing and selling ganja from her house. After the information was verified, an entry was made in the station diary and a written report was submitted to Police Inspector Shivaji Kadam and the sub-divisional police officer.

On the orders of senior officers, and following due legal process, two government panch witnesses from the public works department, weights-and-measures experts and a photographer were called in. Led by Police Inspector Shivaji Kadam and accompanied by woman Police Sub-Inspector Radhika Gaikwad, the police team surrounded the house in Bhandari Colony in the afternoon.

Namita Biswas was served a legal search notice under Section 50 of the NDPS Act. A thorough search of the house was then carried out in the presence of the panch witnesses, during which a substance resembling ganja was found hidden in a white bag under the bed in the bedroom. During initial questioning, the woman admitted that the substance had been brought for sale. Weights-and-measures experts weighed the material on an electronic scale and found the white bag contained green leaves, flowers and buds weighing a total of 846 grams, valued at around Rs 42,300.

Following legal procedure, the police sealed two separate 24-gram samples for chemical testing, while the remaining 796 grams of ganja was sealed and seized in the presence of the panch witnesses. Based on a complaint by Police Sub-Inspector Ganesh Anbhule, a case has been registered against accused Namita Biswas at Gadchandur police station under Sections 8(c) and 20(b)(ii)(a) of the NDPS Act, 1985. Woman Police Sub-Inspector Radhika Gaikwad is conducting further investigation into the case under the supervision of Police Inspector Shivaji Kadam.
