Pranati Nayak to be India's lone gymnast at Asian Games 2026
Pranati Nayak, who trains at the Odisha AM/NS India Gymnastics High Performance Centre, will be India's only gymnast at the Asian Games.
Olympian gymnast Pranati Nayak has been selected to represent India at the Asian Games 2026. At the 20th Asian Games, to be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4, she will be the only gymnast from the country to compete. Pranati currently trains at the Odisha AM/NS India Gymnastics High Performance Centre in Bhubaneswar.
Pranati will compete in artistic gymnastics in the women's vault and women's all-around categories. Her selection comes after a string of strong performances. Earlier this year, she won a silver medal in the women's vault event at the FIG World Challenge Cup 2026 held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
AM/NS India Director and Vice President (HR and Administration) Ashutosh Telang said, "Pranati's selection as India's only gymnast for the Asian Games competition is a very significant achievement and reflects her consistency, discipline and determination. Pranati has previously competed for India at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and has maintained consistently strong performances at both the national and international level. In 2026 itself, apart from the silver at the FIG World Challenge Cup in Tashkent, she also won gold at the 54th All India Railway Gymnastics Championship. She has also competed for India at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
In 2025, Pranati won bronze medals at the Asian Artistic Gymnastics Championships and the FIG Apparatus World Cup. She also won one gold, one silver and one bronze medal at the 38th National Games. Over the past few years, she has won medals at several national competitions as well as international FIG events.
The Odisha AM/NS India Gymnastics High Performance Centre in Bhubaneswar works to produce top-level gymnasts through specialised coaching, quality training facilities and full support for athletes, with the aim of enabling Indian athletes to compete successfully at the national and international level.
