The entire tech industry is watching Apple's annual September hardware event today. The event is being held today, September 9, and has been the subject of intense speculation for several days, with multiple leaks about it surfacing continuously.
The event's tagline is "Surprise and Shine". Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. However, this time only the Pro variants are expected to launch, not a base variant. The event could also feature a game-changing "one more thing" moment, Apple's first foldable iPhone. The device may be launched under the name iPhone Ultra.
The event is scheduled at the Steve Jobs Theater at Apple Park in Cupertino, California. The keynote will begin at 10 am (PT), which is 10:30 pm (IST) in India. Users will be able to watch it live on Apple's official website, its YouTube channel and on Apple TV.
The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are expected to retain a design similar to the iPhone 17 Pro models, with 6.3 inch and 6.9 inch displays respectively. According to leaks, the Dynamic Island could be slightly smaller and the Pro models may get an upgraded LTPO+ display. Both models are expected to feature Apple's A20 chip, built on TSMC's 2nm process, offering better performance and efficiency. Along with Light Blue, Dark Grey and Silver, a Deep Red or Dark Cherry finish may also be available.
The foldable iPhone Ultra is expected to be a book style phone, with an external display of about 5.5 inches and an internal 7.8 inch screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio. It is said to feature a titanium and aluminium frame. According to leaks, Apple is also working on an almost invisible crease and a durable hinge. Due to its slim design, it may have only two rear cameras instead of three, and Touch ID instead of Face ID. Its starting price could be around 2,000 dollars, roughly Rs 1.9 lakh or more.
The event may also see the launch of the Apple Watch Series 12, which could get a new S-series chip, better battery life and new health and fitness features. AirPods 5 may also launch, in two variants, one with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and one without. Official information on the availability of iOS 27 could also be shared at the event.
