CBI files FIR in Disha Salian case, gold medalist officer to lead probe

Six years after the suspicious death of Disha Salian, who was manager to Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, the case has taken a major turn. On the direction of the Bombay High Court, the CBI has registered a formal FIR in the case. The entire investigation into this highly sensitive matter will now be led by the CBI's experienced woman officer, Seema Pahuja.

Seema Pahuja currently serves as Superintendent of Police (SP) in the Special Crime Unit at CBI headquarters in Delhi. She has a long and successful record in crime investigation. She has previously handled high-profile and complex cases including the Hathras case in Uttar Pradesh, the Unnao rape case, the Shimla "Gudiya" murder mystery, and the 2024 RG Kar Medical College case in Kolkata. In recognition of her outstanding investigative work, she was awarded the gold medal for "Best Investigating Officer" in 2021. She is regarded as particularly skilled at connecting the threads of a crime and making effective use of modern forensic evidence.

The CBI has filed the FIR in the Disha Salian case. The CBI team will re-examine old records and available evidence related to Disha's death. In the initial phase of the probe, statements will be recorded from people who were present at a party at the house of Disha's fiance, Rohan Roy, on the night of 8 June 2020, before her death. Besides this, the police investigation from that time, records of the scene, forensic material and other available documents will also be examined.

More than six years have passed since Disha Salian's death, so the investigating agency faces the challenge of re-examining old evidence, records and witness information. The CBI has already begun collecting the necessary documents and records. The CBI's FIR names several people and contains various allegations, but as per the Bombay High Court's direction, being named in the FIR does not automatically make someone an accused. A person's role will be determined only on the basis of evidence that emerges during the investigation. All eyes are now on what facts and evidence the CBI's probe, led by Seema Pahuja, uncovers in this six-year-old case.
