Disha Salian case: CBI registers FIR six years on, questions father for 4 hours
CBI has registered an FIR in the Disha Salian death case on Bombay High Court's orders and questioned her father Satish Salian for over four hours.
The case of Disha Salian's death is back in the headlines six years later. The CBI has now registered an FIR in the case, after the Bombay High Court directed the central investigating agency to take up the probe.
According to the latest information, Disha Salian's father Satish Salian appeared before CBI officers for more than four hours and recorded his statement. He was accompanied by his lawyer Nilesh Ojha during this time.
Satish Salian had filed a petition in the Bombay High Court over his daughter's death. In it, he alleged that Disha was gang-raped and murdered. He also made serious allegations against some influential people and police officers. However, the allegations made in the petition are currently a matter of investigation and have not been separately verified. Only the CBI probe will establish how much truth there is in these claims.
The Bombay High Court had directed the CBI on September 2 to investigate the case and register an FIR. The court had also said that the CBI's joint director for the Mumbai region should appoint an experienced and senior officer as the investigating officer. The court had further made clear that no one should be treated as an accused until concrete evidence emerges in the investigation.
Disha Salian worked as a celebrity manager and had also worked for some time with the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput. She died on June 8, 2020, after falling from a high-rise building in Mumbai's Malad area. At the time, Mumbai Police had initially registered it as an accidental death. A later investigation termed it a case of suicide. Police had said no evidence of any conspiracy or foul play was found in the case.
The name of Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray had also come up in Satish Salian's petition in this case. Aaditya Thackeray had flatly denied the allegations, saying he had nothing to do with Disha Salian's death. He had called it an attempt to malign his image.
With the CBI now registering the FIR, the investigation into this six-year-old case has begun afresh. The agency will examine all the claims made so far about the circumstances of Disha Salian's death and what actually happened that night. All eyes are now on what the CBI's investigation uncovers and whether the mystery of Disha Salian's death is solved.
