The first match of the three-match T20 series between India and Afghanistan will be played today at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been included in Team India for this series, and if he gets a place in the playing eleven today, he could break a major record held by Sachin Tendulkar. All eyes are therefore on whether Vaibhav gets his chance.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi made his T20 International debut for India in England in July 2026. At the time, he broke Sachin Tendulkar's record to become the youngest player to debut for India. However, he has not yet made his T20 International debut on Indian soil. If Vaibhav takes the field against Afghanistan today, he will become the youngest player from any full-member team to play international cricket in India. That record currently belongs to Sachin Tendulkar, who made his debut for Team India on Indian soil at the age of 17. Tendulkar's first match was against Sri Lanka.

On the other side, Afghanistan's squad for this series includes Mohammad Nabi. At 41, Nabi has become the oldest player from any full-member team to play a T20 match on Indian soil. Nabi has consistently delivered strong performances for his country.

Today's match will also be a big challenge for captain Shreyas Iyer. Shreyas has so far led India in three T20 series, losing two and winning one. India lost a two-match T20 series against Ireland 0-2, and lost a five-match series against England 0-4, with one match washed out by rain. After that, under Shreyas Iyer's captaincy, India won their first series against Zimbabwe. Now Shreyas faces a tough challenge against Afghanistan and will give his all to win the series. This will also be the first time Shreyas Iyer captains Team India on home soil.
