BMW launches new 7 Series and i7 in India, prices start at Rs 1.95 crore

BMW India has launched a new range of its flagship 7 Series sedan in the country. The new range comes in three variants: the petrol-powered 740i, and the electric i7 eDrive50 and i7 M70 xDrive. Customers now have both petrol and electric options to choose from.

The 740i and i7 eDrive50 have a starting ex-showroom price of Rs 1.95 crore. The top-spec i7 M70 xDrive is priced at Rs 2.65 crore.

The i7 eDrive50 features a 112.5 kWh battery. This electric sedan generates 455 hp of power and 660 Nm of torque. It goes from 0 to 100 kmph in just 5.5 seconds and has a top speed of 210 kmph. The company claims a WLTP-certified range of up to 728 km. Using a 250 kW DC fast charger, the battery can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in 28 minutes.

The most powerful model in the range is the i7 M70 xDrive. It has a dual-motor setup that delivers 680 hp of power and 1,015 Nm of torque. Using Launch Control and M Sport Boost, torque increases to 1,100 Nm. The car accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in just 3.8 seconds and has a top speed of 250 kmph. The company claims a WLTP range of up to 686 km.

For petrol enthusiasts, the 740i comes with a 3.0-litre 6-cylinder turbo-petrol engine producing 400 hp of power and 540 Nm of torque. This car accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.4 seconds and also has a top speed of 250 kmph.

On design, the new 7 Series features an illuminated kidney grille, Swarovski crystal headlamps, and adaptive LED headlamps that can throw light up to 600 metres. Inside the cabin, features include the new Panoramic iDrive with Operating System X, a 17.9-inch central display and a 31.3-inch 8K theatre screen.

The 740i and i7 eDrive50 are produced at BMW's plant in Chennai, while the i7 M70 xDrive is brought to India via the CBU route.
