Maruti Suzuki's exports of three India-made cars to Japan cross 1 lakh units
Combined exports of the Jimny 5-Door, Fronx and e Vitara to Japan have crossed 1 lakh units since 2024
Demand for India-made Maruti Suzuki cars is steadily rising in Japan. Combined exports of three models, the Jimny 5-Door, Fronx and e Vitara, to Japan have now crossed the 1 lakh unit mark. The company said the milestone reflects India's production capacity and its growing importance in the global market.
The Fronx was the first to enter the Japanese market, with exports starting in August 2024. This was followed by the Jimny 5-Door in December 2024, and the e Vitara from September 2025. Notably, the Jimny 5-Door and the e Vitara are manufactured only in India, which has made India's plants even more important for Suzuki's home market of Japan.
Japan has become Maruti Suzuki's second-largest export market. This was the case in financial year 2025-26 and has continued in the April-August period of financial year 2026-27. During this period, Suzuki Motor Corporation ranked first among vehicle importers in Japan. In financial year 2025-26, close to 100 percent of Suzuki's total vehicle imports in Japan were made by Maruti Suzuki.
Maruti Suzuki's export network now spans about 120 countries. The company has remained the top exporter of passenger vehicles from India from financial year 2021-22 through 2025-26. Between April and August of 2026-27, the company shipped more than 1.8 lakh vehicles abroad.
The achievement has added new significance to automobile ties between India and Japan, with vehicles built through Suzuki's production investment in India now reaching Japan directly. Maruti Suzuki accounts for more than 50 percent of India's passenger vehicle exports.
The inclusion of the Fronx, Jimny and e Vitara in Suzuki's Japanese lineup is notable because these models are giving India's production centres greater weight in Suzuki's global supply chain. According to the company, the exports reflect the international market's recognition of the quality, technology and manufacturing capacity of vehicles built in India. The company said the growing presence of India-made cars in Japan could prove important for further export expansion.
