Constant changes in weather, rising work stress, lack of nutrients in food and frequent use of chemical products on hair are affecting not just overall health but also hair quality these days. Hair turns dull and dry and then starts falling in large amounts. Early signs such as dandruff, hair fall or thinning are often ignored. By the time the problem reaches balding, people turn to expensive treatments and hair care products. Even then, growth often does not improve, because hair needs nourishment from within just as much as from outside.
For new hair to grow, the body needs protein, zinc, biotin, vitamin C, vitamin E and omega-3. Instead of expensive supplements, it helps to include everyday kitchen ingredients in the diet. Eating these regularly can make hair stronger and thicker within a month.
Amla is considered a boon for hair. Amla, dried coconut, dates and roasted black sesame seeds can be ground together in a mixer and shaped into ladoos. Eating these ladoos daily gives the body the nourishment it needs and makes hair healthier. The nutrients and vitamin C in amla have a positive effect on hair growth and make hair stronger.
A chaat made of boiled sprouts can also be added to the daily diet. It can be prepared with boiled sprouts, onion, tomato, spices and lemon juice, and eaten for breakfast or as a snack. Fenugreek seeds are rich in protein and amino acids, which help hair grow and become stronger.
Finely chopped spinach, grated paneer, gram flour and spices can be combined to make tikkis, which taste good and can be given to children in lunchboxes or for breakfast. Eating spinach promotes hair growth and also raises iron levels in the body. Paneer and spinach contain protein-rich components such as iron and folate.
Pumpkin seeds are also considered beneficial for hair. To deal with balding or other hair problems, roasted pumpkin seeds, almonds, walnuts, dried coconut and dates can be combined to make ladoos. Eating these ladoos promotes hair growth and makes hair stronger and thicker. Mixing amla with curd also keeps the body hydrated and helps improve blood circulation in the scalp.
