Apple has launched its new iPhone 18 series, with its first foldable phone, the iPhone 18 Duo, drawing much attention. The top model of this new phone is priced at around Rs 4.50 lakh in India. A smartphone costing four and a half lakh rupees is a startling figure for the common man. What is notable is that the same budget can easily buy five new cars in India from major companies such as Tata, Maruti and Renault. Here is a look at which cars fall within this budget.
Maruti Suzuki's S-Presso is counted among the country's cheapest cars. Its STD (O) petrol manual variant has a starting ex-showroom price of Rs 3.50 lakh. The LXI (O) variant is priced at Rs 3.82 lakh, and the VXI (O) variant at Rs 4.32 lakh. This means even the top variant of the S-Presso can comfortably be bought within the price of the iPhone 18 Duo.
The Maruti Alto K10, long a favourite of Indian middle-class families, also fits within this budget. Its STD (O) model is priced at Rs 3.70 lakh, while the LXI (O) and the commercial Tour H1 variant are priced at around Rs 4 lakh. Notably, even after spending Rs 4 lakh on this car, about Rs 50,000 would still be left over.
The Renault Kwid, known for its stylish look, also features on this list. Its Evolution MT variant has an ex-showroom price of Rs 4.53 lakh, almost matching the price of the iPhone. Buyers can also opt for the AMT, or automatic gearbox, version of this car by spending a little extra.
For those wanting a slightly bigger and safer car in the hatchback segment, the Tata Tiago could be a good option. Its base Smart petrol manual variant has an ex-showroom price of Rs 4.77 lakh. This is a little more than the iPhone's price, but with some adjustment, buyers can enjoy this sturdy car.
The Maruti WagonR, the best-selling car in the Indian market, also makes this list. Its LXI petrol MT variant is priced at Rs 4.99 lakh, about Rs 50,000 more than the iPhone. But for those wanting more cabin space and a family car experience, spending a bit extra could be worth it.
