Yavatmal court gives life term to man for killing brother in land dispute

The district and sessions court in Yavatmal has sentenced a man to life imprisonment in a case dating back four years, involving an incident at Madni (Borgaon). In an old dispute over the division of agricultural land, Satish Manohar Bachalkar had stabbed his own brother Rahul Manohar Bachalkar to death. Judge Anand Yavalkar of the district and sessions court delivered the verdict on Friday, September 11.

The convicted accused, Satish Bachalkar, 32, is a resident of Shivaji Chowk, Malipura, Yavatmal. The two brothers had an old dispute over the division of agricultural land at Madni Borgaon. To resolve the dispute, both brothers and their relatives had gone to Madni on May 16, 2022.

The next day, on the 17th, Rahul, his wife Rita and their two children arrived at Satish's house in the morning to collect some personal belongings. During this, Rahul's mother came out of the house and an argument broke out. As the argument escalated, an enraged Satish took out a knife from the house and stabbed Rahul in the back. Rahul was seriously injured in the attack. He was immediately taken to hospital, but doctors declared him dead before treatment could begin.

The case was investigated by the then police sub-inspector Shashikiran Nawkar, who filed the chargesheet in court. The case was heard on Friday, during which the prosecution examined 10 witnesses. Based on eyewitness testimony and circumstantial evidence, the court sentenced the accused to life imprisonment along with a fine of 2,000 rupees, with an additional six months of rigorous imprisonment if the fine is not paid. Advocate Mangesh S. Ganglawar appeared for the prosecution in the case.
