VNIT Nagpur launches cancer innovation centre, five new courses ahead of convocation
VNIT Nagpur has added new undergraduate and postgraduate courses and set up a cancer innovation centre before its 24th convocation on September 15

The Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology (VNIT), Nagpur, has taken several decisions to expand its footprint in teaching, research and innovation. Details were shared at a press conference held amid preparations for the institute's 24th convocation.
VNIT has introduced five new undergraduate courses and three new postgraduate courses. Alongside this, a separate Cancer Innovation Centre has been set up to promote research, innovation and startups in the field of cancer.
The new undergraduate courses include Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, Computer Science and Engineering, Mathematics and Computing, Electronics Engineering, Engineering Physics, and Chemical Technology linked to Bioprocess Technology. At the postgraduate level, courses such as MBA, Structural Engineering, and Control and Automation have also been introduced.
The Cancer Innovation Centre was inaugurated on July 13. So far, 15 cancer-related startups have been selected for it. The institute will guide these startups on research, innovation and industry development. Research in biomedical engineering and inclusive technology is also being promoted.
In the past year, VNIT has received consultancy projects worth about Rs 33 crore. The institute has also signed agreements with IIT Mumbai, IIT Jodhpur and IIT Delhi. Twenty undergraduate students from VNIT have taken admission at IIT Mumbai for their final year of study. After completing a year of study there, their credits will be transferred back to VNIT.
On placements, VNIT students received a total of 843 job offers last year. The highest annual package was Rs 58.3 lakh, while the average package was Rs 10.45 lakh. The institute says its focus is not limited to the quality of academics but also on the overall development of students and shaping them into responsible citizens.
VNIT Nagpur's 24th convocation will be held on September 15. Dr R. Balasubramaniam, member of the NITI Aayog, will be the chief guest at the ceremony. Board of Governors chairman Mada Bhushi Madan Gopal, director Prof Prem Lal Patel and dean (academics) Prof Vilas Kalamkar will also be present on the occasion.
A total of 1,547 degrees will be awarded at the convocation. These include 59 PhD, 595 MTech, 64 MS, 761 BTech and 68 Bachelor of Architecture degrees. Students and researchers who have performed well academically will be honoured with medals and various awards.
