Washim: Teacher arrested for molesting girl students at ZP school
A teacher at a Zilla Parishad school in Washim's Kata village was arrested after 14 girl students reported his conduct
A disturbing case has come to light at a Zilla Parishad primary school in Kata village of Washim taluka. Washim rural police have arrested a teacher on serious charges of misbehaving with girl students of classes three and four. The accused teacher has been identified as Dilip Borkar. According to police, about 14 girl students reported the teacher's conduct, following which a case of molestation was registered against him on Wednesday. He is accused of behaving indecently with the girl students for the past six months.
The matter came to light when a teacher at the school got wind of it. According to reports, some girl students, frightened and in distress, approached this teacher. They were crying, so the teacher took them into confidence and questioned them. The girls then told her everything about Borkar's conduct. The teacher immediately informed the children's parents and senior officials of the education department. As word spread, villagers grew angry, caught the accused teacher and handed him over to the police. It is reported that villagers also beat him during this. Police's initial investigation also suggests that similar conduct may have occurred with some other girl students as well. The identities of the victims have been kept confidential. Washim rural police registered a case against the accused under the POCSO Act along with sections relating to molestation and arrested him.
Dilip Borkar is accused of showing girl students obscene videos on his mobile phone for the past seven to eight months. He also faces allegations of touching them inappropriately and threatening to stop them from coming to school if they told anyone. It was the vigilance of one teacher that brought the entire matter to light.
Washim police station in-charge Shreedevi Patil said that 66 parents came forward in this case and recorded in-camera statements against the accused teacher, Dilip Borkar. She appealed to girl students to share any information related to the case with the police without fear. Patil said the identities of those who come forward will be kept confidential, which could lead to further misconduct by the accused coming to light. Washim rural police are investigating the case.
