Tragic Toll Mounts in Nepal: Six More Bodies Extracted From Hydropower Tunnel as Search Continues for Thousands Missing

Six bodies were recovered from a steel reinforcement mesh inside the Audit-3 tunnel at the Upper Trishuli-1 hydropower project site in Nuwakot by a joint team of the Nepal Army and security forces. Rescuers had to deploy specialized tools such as gas cutters, grinders, and rotary equipment to extract the victims. This grim discovery comes in the aftermath of catastrophic flash floods triggered by an ice-rock avalanche near the Nepal-Tibet border on August 26, a disaster that has left over 1,400 people dead and more than 6,100 still missing. 

While emergency personnel have successfully rescued over 13,756 individuals across affected areas, search operations remain active at various other hydropower project locations like Chilime, where five bodies were previously recovered. Meanwhile, relief is reaching infrastructure sectors as regular two-way vehicular movement has officially resumed on the Tribhuvan and Kanti highways following the clearance of the Prithvi Highway's Krishnabhir section.
