Externed man ran liquor sales from his home, Nagpur police seize goods worth Rs 18,370

Nagpur police have acted against a man who was externed from the city for a period ahead of Ganeshotsav and Navratri, but who was running a liquor business from his home despite the order. The police commissioner's escort squad raided his house and seized country-made hooch, bottles of country liquor and cash, together worth a total of Rs 18,370.

The case is from Yashodhara Nagar Chowk. On Thursday night, police commissioner Vishwas Nangare Patil's escort squad received information that a man named Babulal Govindrao Hume was selling country-made hooch and country liquor from his home. After confirming the tip-off, the escort squad, along with Yashodhara Nagar police, searched the accused's house in the presence of two witnesses.

During the search, police found country-made hooch worth around Rs 12,000. They also recovered 54 bottles of 90 ml country liquor valued at Rs 2,160. Cash of Rs 4,210 was also found at the house. Combining the liquor and the cash, police seized goods worth a total of Rs 18,370.

According to police, the accused has previously been involved in cases related to liquor sales. This was why, in order to maintain law and order in the city during Ganeshotsav and Navratri, he had been temporarily externed from Nagpur city under Section 163(2) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). Despite this, when police arrived to take action, the accused was found at his home and, according to police, was illegally selling liquor from there.

A case has been registered at Yashodhara Nagar police station under Section 223 of the BNS and Section 65(e) of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act. Police are now investigating further.

The entire operation was carried out under the guidance of police commissioner Vishwas Nangare Patil by escort squad chief assistant police inspector Bhagwan Koli and his team.
