Bus conductor booked for molesting woman, attempted rape on Nagpur route

A case of molestation and attempted rape has come to light involving a 21-year-old woman travelling on a private travel bus from Nagpur to Madhya Pradesh. Finding the woman travelling alone at night, the conductor allegedly began misbehaving with her. When she strongly resisted and started shouting, the accused backed off. The victim then went to Sitabuldi police station and filed a written complaint. Based on the complaint, police have registered a case against the conductor under Section 75 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and other related sections and have begun an investigation.

According to police, on the night of September 7, the woman had boarded Vijayant Travels bus number MH-40/AK-6699 in Nagpur to travel to Binjhiya in Mandla district of Madhya Pradesh. She was travelling alone. As the bus was heading towards its destination at night and reached the vicinity of the MP bus stand area, the conductor allegedly began behaving inappropriately with her.

In her complaint, the woman said the conductor first made obscene remarks and behaved objectionably. He then allegedly forcibly placed his hand on her chest. Despite her resistance, the accused grabbed both her legs and attempted to force himself on her. Though shaken by the sudden assault, she did not lose courage and resisted the accused while raising a loud alarm. When she began shouting, the accused conductor backed away, after which she somehow completed her journey.

After the incident, instead of staying silent about the matter, the woman decided to go to the police. On reaching Nagpur, she gave a written complaint at Sitabuldi police station. Taking the complaint seriously, police have registered a case against the accused conductor and started an investigation.

The identity of the accused conductor was not clearly established at the time of the incident. Police are now gathering information from the bus operator and the travel agency concerned. They are trying to identify the accused based on the staff posted on the bus, ticket booking records and other available information. Police are also trying to find out which staff members were present on the bus at the time of the incident and which route the bus was travelling on. Based on the information gathered and the sequence of events described in the complaint, police are trying to reach the accused.

Sitabuldi police are investigating the case. More facts related to the incident are likely to emerge after the accused is identified and arrested.
