Gold, silver surge; 24-carat gold crosses Rs 1.53 lakh

Gold and silver both saw a sharp rise in the bullion market on Thursday. According to data from the India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA), the price of 10 grams of 24-carat gold rose by Rs 409 to reach Rs 1,53,000. Silver was not far behind, with one kilogram rising by Rs 1,423 to reach Rs 2,35,000 per kilogram.

Gold and silver prices have been fluctuating continuously through 2026. At the start of the year, on December 31, 2025, the price of 10 grams of gold was Rs 1,33,000, which has since risen by about Rs 20,000. Silver, which was at Rs 1,30,000 on December 31, 2025, has now reached Rs 2,35,000. Earlier, on January 29, gold had hit an all-time high of Rs 1,76,000 and silver an all-time high of Rs 3,86,000.

Market experts say continuous gold purchases by central banks around the world and the Reserve Bank of India are supporting this rise. Gold prices are expected to remain strong amid geopolitical and economic uncertainty. Silver could also see a big rise if conditions improve. Based on these estimates, gold prices are projected to reach Rs 1,70,000 and silver Rs 3,00,000 by the end of December.

According to IBJA, the price of 24-carat gold stood at Rs 1,53,486 per 10 grams on the morning of Thursday, September 10. Prices for other purities were: 22-carat gold at Rs 1,52,871, 20-carat gold at Rs 1,40,593, 18-carat gold at Rs 1,15,115 and 14-carat gold at Rs 89,789 per 10 grams.

Gold prices were recorded uniformly across different cities in the country. In Mumbai, Thane, Ratnagiri, Pune, Nagpur, Kolhapur, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalgaon, Sangli and Baramati, the price of 10 grams of gold stood at Rs 1,53,486.

As for silver, IBJA recorded the price at Rs 2,35,249 per kilogram on Thursday morning.
