A case of job fraud has come to light from Mumbai's Juhu area, in which 32 young men were cheated of a total of Rs 13 lakh on the promise of jobs in Singapore. Juhu police have arrested two women in the case, identified as Aashna Shetty and Divya Panchal.
According to information received by police, Aashna Shetty and Divya Panchal had assured the 32 men that they would get them jobs in Singapore. The complainant in the case is Ramesh Shetty, who works as a licensed overseas employment and human resource consultant. Ramesh Shetty had gathered the 32 men based on his trust in the two women. Following this, a total of Rs 13 lakh was collected from these men by cheque in the name of the job process, which was paid to Aashna Shetty and Divya Panchal's company, VA Immigration.
After taking the money, the men were sent to Delhi for a medical examination. But on reaching there, it turned out that the address they had been given was wrong. Because of this, the men had to get their medical examination done at another location at their own expense. Following this, the two women gave the men certain documents, saying these were necessary for the job in Singapore.
According to the complaint, it later came to light that the "holiday permit" given to the men was fake. When the men tried to go to Singapore for the job on the basis of these documents, they faced several problems. The complaint also states that the Singapore government refused to allow these men to enter Singapore again for the job. It was then that the men realised they had been cheated. The entire episode caused them both financial and mental distress.
Ramesh Shetty filed a complaint about the case at Juhu police station. Based on the complaint, police registered a case against Aashna Shetty and Divya Panchal and arrested them. Juhu police are now trying to find out whether anyone else has been cheated on the promise of overseas jobs, whether anyone else is involved in the case, and the source of the documents that were used.
