Shree Charani becomes second-fastest Indian to 50 T20I wickets
The left-arm spinner reached the milestone in India's 40-run Women's Asia Cup semifinal win over Bangladesh
India and Bangladesh met in the semifinal of the Women's Asia Cup 2026 on September 10. India put up a strong show to win by 40 runs and book their place in the final. But the standout moment of the match was young Indian left-arm spinner Shree Charani's performance, as she reached a major milestone.
Shree Charani became the second-youngest Indian player to complete 50 wickets in T20 Internationals. She is fourth on this list globally. With this achievement, she broke Radha Yadav's record and also went past Deepti Sharma, who until now was among the youngest Indian players to achieve this feat.
England's Sophie Ecclestone tops this list, having completed 50 wickets at the age of 20 years and 300 days. India's Radha Yadav is second, having achieved this at 20 years and 334 days. New Zealand's Amelia Kerr is third, reaching the milestone at 21 years and 354 days. Shree Charani now takes fourth place, achieving this at 22 years and 37 days. West Indies' Stafanie Taylor is fifth, having set this record at 22 years and 135 days. India's Deepti Sharma is sixth on the list, having completed 50 wickets at 22 years and 187 days.
Shree Charani, who made her T20I debut in 2015, has repeatedly proven her mettle with the ball. She completed her 50th T20I wicket by dismissing Bangladesh's Juwairiya Ferdous in the semifinal. Notably, she achieved this in just her 29th match, while Radha Yadav had needed 36 matches to reach 50 wickets.
China's Mengting Liu and New Zealand's Lea Tahuhu are also among those who took 50 T20I wickets in the fewest matches, both doing so in 29 matches. West Indies' Anisa Mohammed also achieved this in 29 matches. Shree Charani now joins this group of players who reached the mark in 29 matches. England's Sophie Ecclestone took 34 matches to get there.
