Xiaomi SkyNomad SUV claims 1,705 km range on single charge and tank

Xiaomi, best known as a technology company, has entered the automobile market with a new SUV called the SkyNomad. The company claims the top variant can travel 1,705 kilometres on a single charge and a full tank.

The car differs from conventional hybrids. It uses a range-extended electric system, meaning it runs entirely on battery power for everyday use, with a small petrol engine kicking in only once the battery is depleted. The company has launched four models in this SUV lineup.

The first variant, the N70 Pro, is a 5-seat front-wheel-drive model. It has a 52kWh battery that gives a range of 351 kilometres on battery alone, and 1,351 kilometres combined with the petrol engine.

The second model, the N70 Max, has an all-wheel-drive system and a larger 76kWh battery. It can travel 505 kilometres on battery alone and up to 1,461 kilometres combined.

The third variant, the N90 Max, claims the record range of 1,705 kilometres. It is a 7-seat model with a 76kWh battery and a "2+2+3" seating layout. It runs 464 kilometres on battery alone, with the range extender engine completing the rest of the journey. The fourth and most premium model is the N90 Max Studio, the flagship variant of the series.

The four models are priced between roughly RMB 209,900 and RMB 299,900, which works out to about Rs 29.66 lakh to Rs 42.38 lakh in Indian currency.

The company has not skimped on safety either. The N70 models get 9 airbags, while the larger N90 Max gets 12 airbags. All variants come with an Nvidia Thor-U assisted-driving chip, LiDAR and 4D millimetre-wave radar, along with 25 advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) features as standard.

The N90 Max Studio variant includes some special comfort features. It has an electric lifting roof that increases cabin height to 2,294 millimetres. Its second-row seats can be converted into a 1,870 millimetre bed. The cabin also has floor heating and a built-in projection system.

Xiaomi has made no official announcement yet about launching the car outside China or in India. For now, the SUV stands as a new technology benchmark for the international market.
