Farmers offer prayers to bullocks as Savner celebrates Pola festival
Over 100 farmers decorated and worshipped their bullocks at Matakheda ground in Savner taluka as MLA Ashish Deshmukh joined the celebrations
The Bailpola festival, which honours the bond between farmers and their bullocks, was celebrated with enthusiasm in Savner taluka. A distinct atmosphere prevailed at the Pola ground in Matakheda, where more than 100 farmers brought their bullocks decorated beautifully to the ground and performed formal prayers.
Savner MLA Dr Ashish Deshmukh was present at the event and worshipped the farmers' bullocks. He also honoured the farmers by presenting them with shawls and gifts.
BJP leader Ramrao Mowade, BJP city president and corporator Mandar Mangle, corporator Dr Vijay Dhote, along with party office-bearers, workers and a large number of farmers were present on the occasion.
In his address, Dr Ashish Deshmukh said it was everyone's responsibility to preserve traditional festivals and village culture. He said Pola is a festival that teaches respect for mute animals, and that it is not just a festival but an occasion to express gratitude to the bullocks that stand by farmers in the fields throughout the year.
He further said that farmers today are managing their farming and lives while facing several difficulties, and that these circumstances have to be faced with resolve. The MLA assured that he would always stand firmly with farmers in their joys and sorrows, and wished everyone a happy Bailpola.
At the start of the event, BJP city president and corporator Mandar Mangle gave information about ongoing development works and various projects in Savner town. He said several works stalled for years have now begun, some have been completed and some are in progress.
He said priority is being given to laying underground drains for proper disposal of the town's waste water, improving the sanitation system, providing clean drinking water to every household, the Gharkul housing scheme, distribution of land title deeds, and cleanliness. MLA Dr Ashish Deshmukh is helping secure the necessary funds for the municipal council for all these development works. He said a resolve has been made to work round the clock to give Savner town a new look, and that everyone is making a joint effort towards this.
BJP city president Mandar Mangle, municipal council deputy chairman Raju Ghugal, group leader Ravindra Thakur, Dr Vijay Dhote, Ashok Umathe, Nilesh Pate, Mahesh Chakole, Arvind Tajne and Kulbhushan Navdhinge, along with corporators, office-bearers and workers, worked to make the event a success.
