Sawangi Meghe police raid gambling den, arrest eight

Police raided a card gambling session under a banyan tree in Bhusakhardi and arrested eight men, seizing cash, phones and motorcycles.

Sawangi Meghe police were patrolling the area to check illegal activities when they received information that a group of people were gambling with money on a public road near a large banyan tree in Mauza Bhusakhardi, Yelakeli, using a deck of 52 playing cards.

Acting on the tip-off, police raided the spot between 12:50 am and 1:20 am on the night of September 11, 2026. Eight people were caught gambling on the spot. They were identified as Yogesh Narayanrao Satpute (35), Prem Gajananrao Thakre (19), Tanish Bhojraj Chapade (19), Ashish Nareshrao Dhongde (30), Ashish Chandrashekhar Mode (36), Manoj Rajendra Udan (37), Nilesh Yuvraj Sayare (35) and Sachin Prakashrao Surjuse (23), all residents of Bhusakhardi, Yelakeli, Selu tehsil, Wardha district.

Police seized a total of Rs 4,290 in cash from their possession and from the gambling stake, along with seven mobile phones worth Rs 75,000, a deck of 52 playing cards worth Rs 50, and five motorcycles worth Rs 3,70,000. In all, property worth Rs 4,49,340 was seized. A case has been registered against all eight under Section 12 of the Maharashtra Prevention of Gambling Act, crime number 719/2026, at the police station.

The action was carried out under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Saurabhkumar Agrawal, Additional Superintendent of Police Sadashiv Waghmare and Sub-Divisional Police Officer Sunil Mahadik. The raid involved Police Inspector Vinod Giri, station house officer of Sawangi police station, Police Sub-Inspector Gopal Shinde, Police Sub-Inspector Samalwar, Police Sub-Inspector Satish Dudhane, Police Head Constable Sanjay Panchbhai, Virendra Kamble, Anil Vaidya, Sachin Ghevande, Abhay Khobragade, Nilesh Sadmake, Prashant Jumde, Karbhari Ghuge, Nikhil Futane, Harshvardhan Moon, Amol Jadhav, Gaurav Nartam, Akshay Hivare and Sumit Rathod. The case is being further investigated by Police Havildar Anil Vaidya.
