Tensions within the Mahayuti alliance in Raigad district have surfaced again, with the war of words between the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) and the Nationalist Congress Party sharpening further. The political dispute, which began over the issue of jobs in Khalapur, saw Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) MLA from Karjat, Mahendra Thorve, directly targeting NCP MP Sunil Tatkare.
The dispute stems from an agitation led by NCP district president Sudhakar Ghare demanding that local youths in Khalapur be given jobs in companies. Targeting this agitation, Thorve said the entire matter was nothing but a stunt to fill one's own pockets. He also said that in a few days everyone would know what the matter was really about.
Thorve did not stop there. He alleged that companies in Khalapur were being harassed by the NCP. Thorve said that when companies are working to provide employment to local people, anyone who tries to get those companies shut down would be given a tit-for-tat response, a remark aimed directly at the NCP.
The dispute has once again brought factional tensions within the Mahayuti in Raigad into the spotlight. The agitation over jobs, in which the NCP had raised the demand for local people to be given jobs in companies, took place a few days ago. Following the agitation, Sunil Tatkare had also intervened and spoken to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis about the matter.
This clash between the Shiv Sena and the NCP in Raigad is not new. The two parties have clashed several times before over the post of guardian minister, the Legislative Council election, local politics and credit for development work.
During the Legislative Council election, the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) had withdrawn its candidature form, clearing the way for Aniket Tatkare to win unopposed. Even after this, the political tug of war between the two parties does not appear to be ending.
Following Mahendra Thorve's latest allegations, this dispute within the Mahayuti in Raigad has once again made headlines. All eyes are now on how the NCP responds to Thorve's allegations.
