Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat is celebrating his birthday today. Born on September 11, 1950, in Chandrapur, Maharashtra, Bhagwat turned 76 on September 11, 2026.

He grew up and had his early schooling in Nagpur. After finishing his studies, he took a degree in veterinary science and worked as a veterinary doctor for some time. Later, however, he devoted his entire life to the work of the RSS.

After joining the Sangh, Bhagwat held several responsibilities at different levels within the organisation. Starting with local work, he gradually rose to the national level, and during this period observed and understood the Sangh's functioning and expansion closely. It was this long experience that took him to the organisation's topmost leadership.

In 2009, Mohan Bhagwat was made the RSS chief (sarsanghchalak). He took over this responsibility after K.S. Sudarshan. Since then, he has continued to lead the organisation at the national level. During his tenure, the Sangh's activities have expanded into several areas. Besides matters related to the organisation, he has also spoken openly on social and national issues.

His speeches often touch on themes such as social harmony, nation-building, self-reliance and Indian culture. As RSS chief, he has also emphasised increasing dialogue between the organisation's workers and different sections of society. He considers interaction and cooperation between various sections of society to be essential for nation-building.

Bhagwat's birthday is regarded as a special day for RSS workers and supporters. On this occasion, he receives greetings from across the country, and people recall his long contribution to the organisation and his role in public life.

Mohan Bhagwat's journey, which began in Chandrapur and Nagpur, has today reached the national leadership of the RSS. Despite training professionally in veterinary science, he went on to make the organisation's work his first priority. After holding various responsibilities within the Sangh for years, he was entrusted with the organisation's biggest responsibility in 2009. Today, on his birthday, RSS workers and supporters are recalling his public life, his contribution to the organisation and his continuing active role on social issues.
