Panchpavli: youth held with MD powder, two accomplices on the run
Nagpur police's anti-narcotics squad arrested a 23-year-old with MD powder in Buddhanagar and is hunting two absconding accomplices.
The anti-narcotics squad of Nagpur police's crime branch has stepped up its crackdown on the illegal drug trade in the city. Under this drive, a team acted in the Buddhanagar area under Panchpavli police station and caught a 23-year-old youth with 12.650 grams of MD powder.
Police also seized a mobile phone, an electronic weighing scale and a moped from the accused. The total value of the seized material has been put at around Rs 93,450.
According to police, the anti-narcotics squad was patrolling the Buddhanagar area between 12.20 am and 2.10 am on Sunday when the team received specific information about the sale of narcotics in the area. Acting on this tip-off, the team took position near Pritamsingh Thakur's house and waited for the suspect to arrive.
Some time later, a youth arrived there on a Maestro moped. Suspicious of his movements, the police team stopped and detained him. During questioning, he was identified as Anurag Ramtekekar (23), who police said lived as a tenant in Khobragade's house in Buddhanagar.
During the search, police found 12 grams 650 milligrams of MD powder in a zip-lock pouch with the accused. The narcotic substance was seized and Anurag was arrested. The moped, mobile phone and weighing scale were also taken into custody for investigation.
In preliminary questioning, Anurag told police that he had obtained the MD powder from his associates with the intention of selling it. In this case, police have also identified Javed Khan (30), a resident of Hasanbagh, and Chanda Thakur, a resident of Shantinagar. Their roles are being investigated and both are currently absconding.
Panchpavli police have registered a case under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Investigating officers are questioning the arrested accused to find out where the MD was brought from, who it was to be sold to, and who else could be involved in this supply network.
Following this seizure, the anti-narcotics squad is now working to trace the entire supply network. Police are searching for the two absconding accused while also investigating the source of the MD supply.
The operation was carried out by Inspector Bharat Kshirsagar and his team under the guidance of DCP Deepak Agrawal and ACP Vaibhav Jadhav.
