Nagpur University VC meets minister Patil over long-pending staff recruitment

Recruitment for long-vacant teaching and non-teaching posts at Nagpur's Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj University could begin soon. On Saturday, vice-chancellor Dr Manali Kshirsagar visited Ravi Bhavan and held a courtesy meeting with higher and technical education minister Chandrakant Patil, during which she discussed the recruitment of vacant posts in detail.

Dr Kshirsagar asked the administration to quickly approve recruitment against these vacant posts. The issue arose because the government had earlier sanctioned posts jointly for Nagpur University and Laxminarayan Institute of Technology together. Laxminarayan Innovation Technological University later separated to become an independent university.

As a result, the number of teaching and non-teaching posts for Nagpur University now has to be determined afresh, and a proposal for this has already been prepared and sent to the government. Dr Kshirsagar raised this issue before minister Patil and demanded quick approval of this revised, independent proposal. She said that once the matter of dividing the sanctioned posts between the two universities is resolved, the path to recruitment against the vacant posts at the university will automatically clear.

Education minister Chandrakant Patil responded positively. He expressed confidence that the issue of dividing posts between Nagpur University and Laxminarayan Innovation Technological University would be resolved soon, removing any obstacle to filling the vacant posts. During the meeting, Dr Kshirsagar also briefed the minister on various academic initiatives and activities underway at the university.

The meeting is being seen as significant because the long-standing vacancies in teaching and non-teaching posts at the university have been affecting both academic work and administrative functioning. Pro-vice-chancellor Dr Akhilesh Peshwe and registrar Dr Vijay Khandal were also present on the occasion.
